Cracking of TPE products under weathering conditions is a common problem. As a rule, cracking occurs when the product is in a stressed, deformed state and exposed to high solar temperatures.
Low-quality grades of TPE containing large amounts of filler and poor-quality rubber are prone to accelerated degradation. In GOST 30778-2001 and GOST 31362-2007, which apply to seals, no test method for crack resistance of TPE is specified. In practice, however, this is one of the most important parameters we monitor.
The TPE grades we produce for seals, hoses, and cable insulation withstand cracking tests for more than 1000 hours at a temperature of 100 °C.
